MotHs Makers Exhibition at Selby Community House
On Friday September 9th, Selby Community House opened its doors for the inaugural MotHs Makers Exhibition. It was a truly uplifting event showcasing the talents of local MotHs artists and musicians from around the hills.
Since 2015 Mums of the Hills has been raising awareness, connecting mums, supporting research and promoting local businesses. Our mission to support the wellbeing of mums in the hills, to empower them to overcome common challenges and thrive in a hills community has been a huge part of what we’ve strived to do these past 2 years especially. No surprises then that it was a very proud moment for our community to celebrate our MotHs artists and musicians and see them receive the praise they have long deserved.
On Friday night it was clear that everything that MotHs stood for was there to see for all in that space. Here in the hills, it’s safe to say that we’re a stoic bunch with that ‘she’ll be right’ attitude shining through come rain, hail, wind or snow (and very occasionally sunshine). It’s no coincidence that our event coincided as closely as possible to RUOK? Day. The tired smiles of locals have often masked the tough emotions of the past two years, not least 2021’s June 9 storm. Friday night brought our online community into our place-base one, and demonstrated that despite the challenges, our local community has thrived. The atmosphere was joyous and the conversations cheery. Maybe it was because we’d enjoyed a day without rain or that Spring was in the air but it really felt like our community was back to full strength.
If you made it to the opening, thank you for joining your community in celebrating our talented MotHs Makers. A huge thanks also to Selby Community House for creating such a magical evening. SCH is a magical place with the community right at the heart and this event wouldn’t have happened without you. Finally thank you to the Yarra Ranges Council for providing the grant funding to Selby Community House that enabled this event to take place. Our exhibition will remain open until October 17 and you are able to purchase pieces directly from the exhibitors.
