Take part in a community nature walk to reconnect to our local landscape,
Location: Ferny Creek Scout Hall, 21 Clarkmont Road, Sherbrooke (beside the CFA)
Date: Sunday May 28th
Time: 9am - 12pm
Mums of the Hills is celebrating our love of the forest by facilitating a morning of community nature walks. Guided by experienced hikers, the walks will focus on personal and interpersonal connection, well-being, and reconnecting to our local landscape, and will cater for varying levels of mobility and fitness.
Our guides are experienced hikers, comprising ecologists, Earth sciences educators, mental health workers, and mental health first aiders, who will support the groups as they reconnect and experience the forest. The guides will augment the walks with mindfulness practices, and weave indigenous, cultural, and ecological knowledge through the morning with vivid storytelling.
This event coincides with the second anniversary of the June 2021 storm. Anniversaries of traumatic events are difficult and can bring up intense emotions, therefore this is a trauma-sensitive event, making space and providing support for our community’s range of post-disaster experiences, including five stations for reflection. We will celebrate our forest community with refreshments at the end of our walk.
All walks will commence and end at the Ferny Creek Scout Hall, gently strolling to the entrance of Alfred Nicholas Memorial Garden. When registering please choose the option most suited to your level of fitness.
Option 1
After a turn around the garden, this group will return to the hall , for a gradual 3-km round trip on even paths. This option is pram and mobility friendly.
Options 2
This group will continue past the garden to Sherbrooke Falls and back for a moderately strenuous 5-km walk on well maintained tracks.
Option 3
This group will also continue past the garden to Sherbrooke Falls before proceeding further for a challenging 9-11-km trek, depending on trail conditions.
We ask all participants to please dress appropriately for hiking conditions and wear shoes that can handle our at times muddy track conditions.
