Workshop 2: Kids’ Creative Publishing Project in Olinda

Do you have a child aged 8-12year who would like to co-create a collaborative published book?

  • Location: Olinda Community House

  • Date: Saturday 22 October

  • Time: 3-5pm

The Kids’ Creative Publishing Project provides an opportunity for children aged 8-12 years who live in the Dandenong Ranges to co-create a collaborative book to be published and shared in their community.

Participants will work with Kids’ Own Publishing artists to experiment with different visual art mediums, explore themes for their shared book, create text and illustrations, and contribute to the layout and design of the book.

In exploring a theme for the book, Kids’ Own Publishing artists may provide activities/topics/ideas for group exploration. This project has been designed to provide a positive, fun and creative outlet for Hills children. We know that there may be some children who experienced the challenges of the June 21 storms and pandemic who may experience triggers based on conversation (e.g. about nature) and/or other children’s contributions. Parents will be notified if a child demonstrates through their words/body language that this has occurred.

Kids’ Own Publishing has a commitment to child-led practice. Therefore, the theme of the book will ultimately be decided by the children and may be non-fiction or fiction.

Please do not attend if the participant has any COVID-19 symptoms or anyone in the child’s household is COVID-19 positive or in isolation for COVID-19.

Bookings close: Monday 10th October at 5pm (20 places available, additional children will go on a wait list.)

Project coordination by: Yarra Ranges Council and a community steering group of local mums

This event is thanks to the Yarra Ranges Council community grant. All staff have current Working with Children Check cards and are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
