Kalorama Chestnut Festival

Bring your friends and family from far and wide to one of the most loved festivals in the hills.

  • Location: Kalorama Memorial Reserve, Mt Dandenong Tourist Road, Kalorama

  • Date: Sunday 7 May

  • Time: 10 am until 4 pm

There'll be market stalls by artisan makers, creators, growers and purveyors, amazing food, coffee, attractions, and entertainment. With all funds raised going to the Mount Dandenong Preschool and Primary School.

This year we also have local photographer Bianca Summerfield Photography holding family mini shoots, plus an incredible lineup of performers including Juke Joint Jammers, Milk Bar Run, The Mountain Howlers, The Curls, Tess & Frank, and the Monbulk College band.

Parking is limited at the Festival, so we encourage patrons to utilise public transport. If you have to drive, the Ferny Creek Club Scouts manage parking around the oval on the day and charge $5 per car which all goes to the Scouts.

  • The Kalorama Chestnut Festival is a fundraising event hosted by the Mt Dandenong Preschool and Mt Dandenong Primary School. The Festival has been running for over 30 years and has become a local institution and a much-loved family day out for not only the local community but visitors seeking a taste of Autumn in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges. Each year, a new generation of local families take the reigns, lovingly carrying on the Chestnut Festival traditions whilst also introducing just a hint of something new.

The kindergarten and primary school host a number of stalls themselves and also invite other market stall holders to join in the fun, making it a true celebration of the local Mt Dandenong, Olinda and Kalorama community.

At the heart of the Festival is the chestnut itself – a humble and under-utilised nut which can be found in abundant supply throughout the Hills. Chestnuts have been grown in Australia for over 100 years and for the Hills community, are synonymous with Autumn – the familiar smell of roadside chestnut roasting stalls a special reminder of the changing of seasons.

  • The Chestnut Festival committee invites outside stall holders each year. We average around 60 stall holders selling and promoting a large variety of items & causes including : local community groups & businesses / produce / jewellery / clothing / preserves / novelty items & toys / artwork / craft stalls.

If you would like to apply for a market, community or hot food stall please complete the online application form. Once you have completed your form, the Stalls Coordinator will be in touch to confirm your spot and provide further details of payment arrangements.

For all setup enquires please contact Jaki Farrey 0435 950 067.

  • The Kalorama Chestnut Festival is run every year by a team of volunteers from the Mt Dandenong Preschool.

Our little Pre-School is situated in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges, Victoria, Australia. At an elevation of 500m / 1650ft we are surrounded by cool temperate rainforest consisting of towering eucalypts and ancient tree ferns with an amazing variety of wildlife, including one of the world’s best mimics- the Lyrebird. The Dandenong Ranges are about an hours drive from the centre of Melbourne.
