Are you a Yarra Ranges resident who volunteers in any of the storm impacted areas of the Yarra Ranges? Would you like to increase your confidence in responding to people experiencing mental health problems?
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) will teach you how to provide initial support to adults aged 18+ who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.
The course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals. Mental health problems covered:
Depression and anxiety
Psychosis
Substance use problems
Mental health crises covered:
Suicidal thoughts and behaviour
Panic attacks
Traumatic events
Severe psychotic states
Severe effects from alcohol or
other drug use
Aggressive behaviours
By learning these skills you can make a difference in the lives of adults in your community.

This course is not a therapy or support group.
Who is providing the MHFA course?
Yarra Ranges Council has received funding from the Victorian Government to organise MHFA training for community volunteers in storm impacted communities. This course is being hosted and coordinated by Olinda Community House and delivered by an accredited MHFA Master Instructor.

The Blended community MHFA course consists of online and in person learning. Access to a computer/tablet and internet is required.

A self paced eLearning component (takes 5-7 hours to complete). To be completed prior to Wednesday 2nd November

An instructor-led session. MHFA instructor led session at Olinda Community House.

Participants must be Yarra Ranges residents and must be active volunteers in the Yarra Ranges. Eligibility will be checked via an Expression of Interest process before registration is confirmed

Please note that this course is FREE for those who register and complete the course. If participants are accepted for the course but do not achieve accreditation, Council will be required to invoice the registered participant for the cost of the place - $155.
