January Updates

January was a whirlwind of connections, advocacy, and community-building for MotHs!

From attending the flag-raising ceremony at Victoria's Government House to rubbing shoulders with inspiring individuals like Darcy McGauley-Bartlett, Dr. Raj Khillan, Dr Janine Mohammed and Ro Allen, it was a month filled with meaningful encounters and impactful discussions.

At the ceremony, MotHs President Belinda Young had the opportunity to shed light on important community challenges and champion causes close to our organisation's heart. Although meeting with Premier Jacinta Allen at the event was fleeting, delving deeper into matters such as the 'Purple Postnatal Book' initiative and addressing the childcare crisis in our community is an exciting prospect for future meetings. I'm hopeful that through collaborative efforts, we can make meaningful changes in our community.

On January 30, Belinda Young and Vice President, Katerina Volny, attended the annual Governor General's Australia Day function at Government House. It was a night filled with inspiration and gratitude. Meeting remarkable individuals like the mathematical genius Alison Harcourt, Victorian Equal Opportunity & Human Rights Commissioner, Ro Allen and the 2024 Victorian recipient of the Australian of the Year Award, Dr. Janine Marie Mohamed was truly humbling. Their extraordinary achievements and endeavours are inspirational.

We received a game-changing donation from Circonomy and David Jones, upgrading our clothes rack situation for our clothes-swapping events. With sturdy, commercial-grade racks in place, our events will now be smoother to set up and more enjoyable than ever. See you at our next clothes swap is on Feb 24!

This month I also had the opportunity of meeting some fantastic members from the Boronia, Wandin, and Kinglake Ranges clubs of Inner Wheel International. Founded back in 1924, Inner Wheel was founded with the aim of fostering friendship, empowering women and supporting charitable causes. Today, it operates in over 100 countries, with a fabulous membership of women from diverse backgrounds and professions. I am looking forward to developing these connections in the future.

Next! An update on the incredible MotHs Oxfam team! They are in the final weeks of training, conquering a remarkable 19.23km during their Oxfam Trailwalker training last week. Navigating through picturesque ferny forests and expansive farmland, before finishing (a little tired) at Lysterfield Lake, they also reached the funding goal to enter the event. We’re truly inspired by their dedication and energy. Go team MotHs!

Finally, on February 3rd, our MotHs Makeup workshop was a hit, thanks to the expertise of Nae in demystifying the world of makeup.

Check out of the photos below and cheers to progress, connection, and making a positive impact in our community!
