MotHs Hub is GO GO GO!

For so long our MotHs members have asked for a place to call home. It’s been a long time coming but finally that dream is becoming a reality. Here is the sneak peak of the hub before it has its transformation. It’s the perfect start for a permanent space for us.

We have big dreams for our hub, dreams that we hope will help mums:

  • work or study away from home but close to their kids (Belgrave Kinder is below us)

  • gain skills to help mums re-enter the workforce

  • get advice on careers, legal advice on wills and relationships and financial advice

  • counselling services

  • connect with other mums through hobby, exercise and relaxation groups

  • to recognise that their mental and physical wellbeing is just as important as anyone in their family.

Go Fund Me Now Live

To make the hub a reality, we really need your help. You’ve seen the before video. Now watch our fundraiser video. The Go Fund Me page has more information, videos and links to give you an idea of the community we have created and where we want to take it to.

Our hub seriously needs some love. We need to:

  • remove the many old vanities (nearly one in every room)

  • install a new reverse cycle air con unit and other electrical works

  • remove an outdated gas heater

  • new floors and lighting

  • new kitchen units wouldn’t go astray. Check the first video and you’ll agree

  • furniture and good lick of paint.

I know we can do it though so if you can please pledge.

Our First Step is Complete

Thanks to your generous donations, Tim from TJP Plumbing Solutions has been out to do the plumbing work capping off the old vanities, taking the time make sure pipes are flush with the wall. If you are local to the Dandenong Ranges I highly recommend Tim. He’s a bit of a legend around the hills for his polite, punctual and professional services. Thanks Tim!

Our next hurdle is the electrics. Our electrician has provided us with an incredibly generous quote but the industrial reverse cycle air conditioner is costly. As soon as we hit this target though it will be go go go!

As we achieve our targets I’ll update you.

What are the not so obvious costs?

I’ve mentioned the obvious costs but other costs are less obvious. Things like contents insurance, rates, tip fees, signage and wifi. There is also the important point of a staff member. MotHs has always run online and with volunteer help. All our events coordination, advocacy work and networking has happened in every spare free minute from our homes. The hub changes that a bit though. For it to be open, we need someone to be there to not only keep the doors open but to coordinate the Hub calendar and continue the advocacy work.

Having a permanent home not only legitamises MotHs as ‘not just a Facebook group’, it recognises the contribution MotHs gives to our community. The hub will need a paid staff member. We aim to cover the bulk of staff wages through grant funding but we can’t rely on grant funding alone. Depending on the amount of funds we raise, we will look at a percentage saved to support these ongoing staff costs.

How you can help

Donate One Day’s Coffee Money

If you are in the habit of buying a coffee, we’d appreciate if you could pledge those coffee funds to our cause. Every little bit will help get us one step closer to opening the doors. Here’s the link again for where to donate.

Items

We have been so appreciative of the help and generous donations we have received to date. Whether that is through donated items, time or money, every little bit has really helped. We are still in search of items to reduce the need to ask for funds. These costly items include flooring, light fittings, a heavy duty coffee machine, and a kettle. We have yet to secure furniture for the lounge room and possibly outside but we’re waiting to make sure it a) fits and b) works harmoniously together. We hope for a beautiful outdoor bench made by Treasuring Our Trees from locally sourced timber that fell in the June 2021 storms, but again that will come at a significant cost I would imagine. If you have contacts or you own a business that would like to be involved in making the MotHs Hub a reality, please send me an email at mumsofthehills@gmail.com

Share Our Go Fund Me

We would love it if you could share this web page or our gofundme link with your network. We are also promoting this through Facebook and so we’d appreciate if you followed us and shared our Facebook posts too. Every little bit helps.

Businesses Getting Behind the Hub

Our local businesses have jumped in to lend a hand and we are sending out a huge thanks to the following:

Bunnings Scoresby: For the very much needed gift vouchers. Thank you!

TLC Birth and Beyond: Has made a really generous offer. For every new client who makes a Chiropractic booking in the month of February, TLC Birth and Beyond will donate $50 to the creation and renovation of the hub. Everyone is welcome to receive care at their office. It could be yourself, a partner, grandparent or child. Initial Chiropractic Consults are $150 and we can process private health claims on the spot. You can also get a referral from your doctor (covers part of the initial cost) if you experience chronic pain. Simply click on the link below, type “moths referral” in the online booking notes and we will make sure the money goes to the right place. We really want to support such a fantastic opportunity for our hills people. ❤️ We will make extra hours available as required but if you struggle to find a spot that works, feel free to call or text on 0402 161 062. Here's the link to TLC. Thank you James and Jenna Evans.

Hot Cross Bun Fundraiser

Who doesn’t love a good hot cross bun! We’re raising funds for the new Mums of the Hills hub in Belgrave and what better way to do this but having a hot cross bun fundraiser. Funds from each 6-pack will go towards our new hub ($2.03**). Thanks Bakers Delight! Full details here via this link.

**************************************************************
Many more exciting things to come but before we got further, on behalf of Mums of the Hills, Thank you!.
