Halloween in the Hills is back

We’re excited to see the return of Halloween on the Green at the Ferny Creek Reserve in 2024!

Even the Mayor gets involved..

My kids have been longing for the return of the beloved event that does so much for our hills community. For me, a Halloween convert, it’s a no brainer. You have to go to this event. Your kids will love it.

About Halloween on the Green

This fantastic event is the brainchild of Andrew and Fabian Filip-Gautier.  Their goal was to create an event that:

  • family friendly event

  • removed financial barriers

  • removed social barriers

  • brought the community together

  • 100% fun

  • Raised funs for local community groups and schools

Plenty of park space enables kids to roam freely and safely

How does Halloween on the Green achieve this? This is how:

  • An next to free family event. There is a small entry fee but from there on, every single ride and game is FREE. So, if your child wants to bounce on the jumpy castle or ride the merry go round so many times they turn green… they can go right ahead because it will be at no extra cost. It means that every child that enters won’t have to watch the other kids go on rides. Call it a YES day where the parents are the BEST EVER.

  • Costumes encouraged. They can be funny, spooky, cute, it doesn’t matter. Getting into the fun is what it’s all about. The costumes are amazing ice breakers too. There are stories from previous events where a simple ‘hey your costume is cool’ has struck up a conversation that lead to neighbours meeting neighbours for the first time.

  • Funds are raised through school run stalls. A sausage sizzle, Devonshire teas, cake, popcorn and fairy floss stalls all contribute. The Scouts, CFA, Home-schooling community, Ferny Creek Tennis club, along with Sassafras (PS and Pre school), Ferny Creek, Olinda and Mt Dandenong have all contributed in the past and benefited from the funds raised.

  • Stalls are provided lollies and fruit, making trick or treating really easy and safe.

  • Food vans are there to entice but you are welcome to bring your own picnic to enjoy on the green.

  • Local musicians really make the event come alive.

For me, it’s a no brainer. You have to go to this event. Your kids will love it.  For more details, head over to their website HERE for all the news and to buy tickets.

The Philanthropic Collective is a fantastic local charity

About the Philanthropic Collective

If you haven’t heard of The Philanthropic Collective (TPC), let me just start by saying they’re an amazing local charity, run 100% by volunteers doing much need work in our community. Throughout the pandemic, TPC’s Free Food program has worked tirelessly to support local individuals and families doing it tough. So far they have served over 240,000 meals, helping at least 2,000 local families. I would highly recommend checking our their website page HERE and buying a $2 raffle ticket HERE to support them plus be in the running to win a prize pool of $1500 worth of products and services. The other side of TPC is about bringing our community together and supporting local schools on the ridge of the Dandenong Ranges. This is where Halloween on the Green comes in. We all know how much kids love trick or treating, but most of our hills streets aren’t suitable for this. Then there are the concerns around stranger danger, the work/trick or treat time juggle. Despite its popularity overseas, the safety and privacy concerns can be off putting. That’s why Halloween on the Green is so great.
