February Recap: Empowerment, Engagement, and Growth
February was a big month for us at Mums of the Hills (MotHs). From providing self-defense classes to meaningful political engagement and valuable parenting support, we’ve been busy making an impact! Here’s a look at what we accomplished this month:
We ran two self-defense classes designed to help mums in our community with the confidence and skills to protect themselves. These sessions provided practical techniques for real-world scenarios, ensuring participants walked away feeling stronger and more secure. It was fantastic to see so many members take part and build their self-confidence!
Our self-defense classes were a welcome addition to our skills workshops.
Our special MotHs postnatal ‘Mummas’ group started again as well this month. We hope this group will be a vital space for connection and support for new mums on their road to recovery following birth. The group was created by osteopath, Rebecca Lovett, and we were thrilled to have the team from the Health & Wellbeing Local on hand to focus on mental health in the first week.
As part of our commitment to community advocacy, we met with candidates running in the upcoming Federal election. These conversations allowed us to raise key issues affecting our members and ensure that our voices are heard. We’re looking forward to continuing this conversation at our Online Forum this Sunday, where candidates will engage directly with our community.
Our Tuning in to Teens sessions, led by Facilitators Annemarie Meijerink (Nurturing Parenthood) and psychologist Katerina Volny, kicked off in February and have been met with overwhelming success. These sessions focus on strengthening parent-teen relationships, improving communication, and providing strategies to navigate the challenges of adolescence. We’re thrilled to see the positive impact on families this program is having.
With so much achieved in February, we’re excited to keep the momentum going! From further self-defense opportunities to continued advocacy and parenting support, we’re dedicated to making a difference in the lives of our members.
