Dr Jodie Mechielsen Psychology
Hi, I'm Jodie (she/her). I'm a registered psychologist, clinical psychology registrar, and researcher with a background in clinical exercise physiology. I have a specific interest in supporting people with eating, exercise, and body image concerns.
No matter how big or small you perceive your difficulties to be, you are worthy of support. I provide telehealth psychological assessment and therapy for adults experiencing:
Binge eating disorder
Bulimia nervosa
Anorexia nervosa (including "atypical" anorexia nervosa)
OSFED
Orthorexia
Disordered eating
Emotion or stress-related eating
Compulsive or excessive exercise
Exercise avoidance
Trauma or concerns related to weight stigma
Dieting behaviours or thoughts
Body image difficulties
Caregivers wanting to develop a better relationship with food/exercise/their body
Difficulties with food, exercise, or body image during the perinatal period.
I approach therapy with compassion, curiosity, authenticity, and, when appropriate, a bit of humour. I highly value people’s lived experience and believe this must be considered as a part of evidence-based treatment. Your story will always be heard and held with care. i exclusively use a non-diet, size inclusive, and Health at Every Size® (HAES®) approach. Through a trauma-informed lens, I view people’s difficulties as an understandable response to life experiences (including societal issues), rather than a pathology or disorder.
I am neurodiversity affirming, inclusive to LGBTQA+ and BIPOC folks, welcoming to all bodies, and culturally aware; I actively invite you to talk about how these aspects of your identity influence your life experiences and the therapy process.
All sessions are currently delivered via telehealth. I am considering providing face-to-face sessions in the Hills if there is interest. Please reach out with any enquiries, I am more than happy to assist!
